Anyone familiar with the digital world knows the name Steve Jobs- a legend in all aspects of the computer era. While Jobs never graduated from college, he talks about how to find the applicable things in life using three stories. He shows us how to embrace carpe diem in life, no matter the circumstances. The underlying themes are highlighted below in his three stories.

1. Believe the dots will connect down the road, you can’t connect the dots looking forward, you have to connect them going back. Things don’t go how you plan them, they go how they come. Use  your gut to make the big decisions.

2. Do what you believe is great work. The only way to do great work is to love what you do. Do what you love, and don’t settle. Keep looking.

3. Look in the mirror everyday and ask, “if today were the last day of my life, would I want to do what I am doing today?” If the answer is no for many days in a row, you need to change something. Remembering you are going to die is the most important tool to make big decisions in life, everything falls away in the face of death. External expectations, pride, fear of embarrassment or failure are all things that don’t matter in the big picture. Remembering you are going to die is the best way to remember you have nothing to lose. “You are already naked, you have nothing to lose by following you heart.”

In relativity, death is the best invention of life. It’s life change agent, it clears out the old and brings in the new. Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life, don’t let the noise of others opinion drown your inner voice.  Most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition, they truly know what you want to become, everything else is secondary. If you haven’t already I recommend you take in Job’s wisdom.
