On My Way To Digital Death Day

I’m on my way to the first (annual?) Digital Death Day in Mountain View, CA today and am writing in flight from Madison to San Francisco. Digital Death what? That’s been the reaction from pretty much everyone I’ve talked to in Madison when I’ve answered their question of “why are you headed to San Francisco?”
Digital Death Day is an unconference presented by Kaliya Hamlin and the rest of the organizing committee for businesses, academics, attorneys, funeral homes and just about anyone who is interested in what happens to people’s online identities after they pass away. It’s set up without a formal structure so that people can share ideas and really learn about what others have to offer. I’m excited to meet everyone tomorrow and hear about how they got interested in digital assets and death.
I’m meeting up with Nathan Dosch of the Digital Estate Planning Blog out here and I can tell you he is excited to meet everyone as well. I’m also planning to meet up with Evan Carroll of The Digital Beyond. It’s been a few months since SXSW, so it’ll be nice to talk to him again. Jesse and I will have some news to go along with Digital Death Day, so stay tuned to the blog tomorrow for more info. More tomorrow!
